Earlier this summer, Israeli air strikes killed 1,800 Gaza civilians and injured roughly 10,000. In response to the slaying of 4 Israeli teenagers, the main objective of the air strikes on Gaza were to eliminate underground tunnels Hamas used to transport weapons, materials, and other resources throughout their land.
Israeli intelligence claimed that in order to support the insurgent group with widespread resource development, Hamas hid resources and weapons throughout civilian location such as schools and community centers. Although controversial, Israel continued the air strikes despite the high amount of civilian casualties that occurred, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemning Hamas for putting Gazan civilians in this position. The air strikes did not stop until Israel confirms that every last Hamas tunnel was destroyed.
On Thursday, Israel released a statement claiming to have foiled a Hamas terrorist plot that targeted Jerusalem’s Teddy Soccer Stadium. Other parts of the city as well as locations in the West Bank were included in the plot as well.
