Protesters continue to disturb shopping in suburban St. Louis in response to the grand jury’s decision to not indict the Missouri officer in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown for the second consecutive day.
Protesters marched through a Trader Joe’s store about 10 miles south of Ferguson and plan to march to the Missouri governor’s mansion in Jefferson City for further protesting over the grand jury decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson, according to ABC7 News.
The NAACP organized the march to Jefferson City for police reforms in St. Louis and the U.S., particularly in the Ferguson police department. The 120-mile march will take seven days, and participants will host rallies and “teach ins” along the way.
On Friday afternoon, protestors were responsible for the temporary closure of three malls in suburban St. Louis.
According to the Associated Press, at least 200 protesters sprawled out on the floor chanting, “Stop shopping and join the movement” forcing stores to lock their entrances or lower their security doors at the Galleria mall in Richmond Heights just south of Ferguson.
Authorities closed the mall for about hour on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Smaller groups of protesters also caused temporarily closures at the West County Mall near Des Peres and the Chesterfield Mall.
Later on Friday, demonstrators chanted and blocked traffic on South Florissant Avenue near the Ferguson police station and fire departments. Fifteen people were arrested on charges consisting of impeding the flow of traffic, resisting arrest, peace disturbance and assault according to the Missouri Department of Public Safety spokesman Mike O’Connell.
On Friday, Chicago, New York, northern California and Seattle witnessed some of the largest protests in the country in which protesters chained themselves to trains.
The protesting is ongoing. However, it is grown more peaceful this week.
