Black Friday deals bring in consumers in droves

In the first hour, Target sold 1,800 televisions and 2,000 video games per minute.

Consumers kept up the tradition of waking up super early, waiting in line and shoving their way to on-sale items that they may or may not need, with a vengeance this black Friday.

Black Friday starts earlier and earlier each year with many retailers opening their doors as early as 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving day and remaining open throughout the night, allowing many consumers to shop until they literally drop.

Major retailers, Best Buy, Walmart and Target, were all bombarded with customers. Per the New York Times, Walmart reported that more than 22 million shoppers went through their doors on Thanksgiving evening alone. That is more people in one day than the amount who visit Disney’s Magic Kingdom in the course of an entire year.

Electronics made up a majority of the items sold, including televisions, tablets and video games. In addition, children’s apparel and bed sheets were also huge sellers.

When it comes to Target stores, they state that their highest selling items included the iPad and Xbox One, as well as the Element 40” television and Nikon L330 digital camera. According to an official statement from Target, in the first hour of their black Friday sales, the retail giant sold 1,800 televisions per minute as well as 2,000 video games per minute. They expect a similar trend to continue throughout the day.

Black Friday sales are not limited to the brick and mortar stores; consumers are also flocking to online markets. Amazon.com, for instance, has had black Friday sales available since last week. Among their deals are big screen televisions and golf clubs.

When all is said and done, analysts predict that more than 140 million consumers will make their holiday purchases either in the store or online this weekend alone. Consumers would be advised to get to the store before everything is gone!
