Singer of Grammy-winning band admits to being homeless and hunted by IRS

Scott Stapp makes Facebook video to tell fans he's being investigated by the IRS and is sleeping in his truck.

Creed won a Grammy for best rock song in 2001 for their hit song “With Arms Wide Open,” but the band’s success wasn’t enough to keep money in their pockets for long. Lead singer Scott Stapp admitted in a 15 minute Facebook video on Wednesday that he is being investigated by the IRS and has been sleeping in his truck.

In the video, Stapp admits that his bank accounts have all been emptied, and that he is currently the subject of an IRS investigation. He goes on to reveal that he’s also homeless, which TMZ reports is because his wife recently filed for divorce after accusing Stapp of being a meth addict and having paranoia problems.

“There are rumours that I’m on drugs and drinking … relapsed … that’s also a lie, it’s not true, I’m as sober as can be,” said Stapp in the beginning of the video, before making a plea for an attorney to help him fight his bank for violating his civil rights.

“Someone had called (the bank), used my information, and changed my online passwords to my bank accounts, and transferred all the money … so I had nothing,” he stated. “There were a couple of weeks where I had to sleep in my truck. I had no money even for gas, or food. I went two days without eating because I had no money and ended up in an emergency room.”

Despite the depressing and occasionally desperate content which filled the video, Stapp claimed that he didn’t make it so people would pity him; he made the video to tell viewers what he’s been going through and to let them know that he still has the Christian faith which helped Creed become famous.

“I’m not playing victim here, I’m not asking you to feel sorry for me, I’m just telling you the truth about what’s going on right now in my life.”

“I’m trying every day to see what God’s trying to teach me through this and I’m trying to keep a positive attitude. I must admit I’ve shed quite a few tears alone asking God why, but I know he has a purpose.”

While Creed hasn’t had much success since winning four American Music Awards in 2001 and 2003, Stapp still apparently has a considerable fanbase. His confession video was viewed over 60,000 times within 12 hours.
