Wonder Woman gets the ‘Breaking Bad’ touch: Michelle MacLaren to direct

MacLaren is also well known for her work on Game of Thrones.

As the saying goes, frequently it takes a woman to get the job done. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Michelle MacLaren has been hired to develop and direct Warner Bro’s Wonder Woman movie.

MacLaren is known for her varied work both directing and producing in television. IMDB details that she is originally from Canada and helped produce the X-Files before directing episodes of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. She executive produced and directed in the award-winning Breaking Bad series. She reportedly became a candidate for Wonder Woman in August amidst a wide-ranging search for a director that focused on finding a female leader to take the reins.

The Verge reports the only other female director of a superhero movie was Lexi Alexander, who directed Punisher WarZone in 2008. Patty Jenkins had been tapped to direct Thor: The Dark World but left the project before completion.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Wonder Woman has been in development intermittently for over a decade. The project’s last attached director was Joss Whedon, but he left the film in 2007. Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder are on board to produce this latest incarnation. No title or writers have been announced but the film is scheduled to be released in 2017.

After an equally exhaustive search, Israeli actress Gal Godot is on tap to play the world’s most important female superhero. She will be making her debut as the character opposite Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, coming out next year.
