Michelle MacLaren on tap to direct upcoming Wonder Woman film

MacLauren will officially be the first female director of a superhero film since 2008's Punisher: War Zone.

Although the Wonder Woman movie is still a couple years away, it has been announced that veteran television director, Michelle MacLaren, will helm the future superhero flick, per the New York Daily News.

Although MacLaren has yet to do much in the film department, there is a good chance that fans have seen her work in the past. MacLaren has an almost endless resume of experience directing television shows, including everything from past shows, The X-Files and Without a Trace, to more recent fare including episodes of Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad.

With MacLauren’s position securely in place, she will officially be the first female director of a superhero film since 2008’s Punisher: War Zone, which was directed by Levi Alexander.

Wonder Woman is just one of 12 films that Warner Bros. has announced in the last few months. Other proposed films include a forthcoming Punisher film, Aquaman, a Justice League movie and the upcoming Ben Affleck-starring Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which the character of Wonder Woman will have a part in.

Since the film is several years away, plot and character details still need to be ironed out. However, what is known is that actress Gal Gadot will play the part of Wonder Woman, the film currently has four writers and the plot will follow along with the mythos that involves a warrior-princess with incredible powers who helps those less fortunate.

This is not the first time that a Wonder Woman movie has been in development. Back in 2007, director Joss Whedon was attached to direct but left the project due to creative differences. Of course, Whedon came back in a big way when he brought The Avengers up to the slot of third highest grossing film ever.

The Wonder Woman film is due out in theaters in June of 2017.
