The woman spent five days in the hospital before dying from the disease.
An Egyptian woman who was six months into her pregnancy has died of the swine flu, according to Reuters.
The woman was reported dead after five days in the hospital, and doctors attributed the death to the H1N1 swine flu. A health ministry spokesman made the announcement earlier today.
The woman, who was 31 and was not named, came in to the hospital on Nov. 18 with symptoms resembling the flu. When she didn’t respond to treatment, she was placed into intensive care.
Initially, doctors thought it was bird flu, but she ended up testing positive for the H1N1 flu. Two people died from the bird flu in Egypt in recent days.
Swine flu is a strain of influenza that is endemic to pigs, and is common in pig populations. It is uncommon for swine flu to transfer to humans. Usually, those who come down with swine flu spend a lot of time around pigs.
Swine flu caused a scare in Western nations in 2009 when 14 people died in Northern Ireland as a result of the swine flu. Those who died typically had weakened immune systems.
