Murder-suicide on South Dakota reservation kills four

Murder-suicide on South Dakota reservation leaves four dead, including gunman.

Four people are dead and one critically injured after a murder-suicide at a Native American reservation in South Dakota. The shooting occurred early Saturday morning on the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation in the town of Sisseton.

Investigators believe that 22-year-old Colter Richard Arbach shot and killed three other people and critically injured a fourth before taking his own life. The shooting occurred in a home in the small town of 2,500 people about 90 miles south of Fargo. Few details are known at this time, and the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office and Sisseton Police have declined to comment. Questions are being referred to the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Neighbors reported waking to a burst of gunshots. Dan Shinerock said he ran outside after calling 911 and saw a body hanging out of a car in front of the residence where the shots were fired. DCI arrived at the scene at about 3 a.m. DCI spokeswoman Sara Rabern did not indicate whether the deceased were related.
