One major new feature is GPS location-based charging, which allows drivers to set a "home" charging location and save charge settings for that location.
Since being introduced for the 2011 model year, the Chevy Volt has become one of the most popular hybrid cars on the market. Now, according to a recent report from EGM Car Tech, the second generation of the Volt is on its way, and numerous improvements have been made to the car along the way.
Chevrolet reportedly showed off a few of the Volt’s new features at a fan event held in Los Angeles. The 2014 LA Auto Show is going on this week, but it appears that Chevy was not quite ready to officially launch the new car. The full reveal for the 2016 Chevy Volt will take place at the North American Auto Show in January.
Even if drivers have to wait a few more months to see everything that the 2016 Volt has to offer, though, they still got a decent tease of the new model this week. Chevrolet revealed most of the new car’s front end, which has a new silver grille and a more angular look than previous models.
In addition to aesthetic changes, Chevy teased a slew of new improvements to the car’s battery charging cycle. One major new feature is GPS location-based charging, which allows drivers to set a “home” charging location and save charge settings for that location. This system allows users to set up a charging schedule at home so that the Volt’s battery is always ready to go for a morning departure time. The car can also be set to only charge at off-peak utility hours, so as to take advantage of the cheapest electricity rates throughout the day.
The new Chevy Volt will also include more intuitive charge status indicators, to help drivers keep track of their battery level as they travel.
