Tracy Morgan may be permanently impaired following brain injury

Morgan's lawyer revealed the comedian's condition yesterday.

Tracy Morgan is still on the long road to recovery. According to NBC News, his lawyer, Benedict Morelli, told the Associated Press that Morgan is still battling the effects of a traumatic brain injury from the devastating limo crash in June.

Morgan, 46, was traveling in a limo from with six other people when they were hit on the New Jersey Turnpike by a Walmart truck. Morgan’s friends Ardie Fuqua, Jr, and Jeffrey Millea, were both critically injured, and comedy writer James McNair was killed. Morgan was known to have suffered a broken nose, broken leg, and several broken ribs, but the head injury had not been revealed until Morelli’s statement yesterday.

“When you have a traumatic brain injury it takes a very long time to find out how you’re going to do and how much you’re going to recover,” Morelli reported. “You just don’t know. So that’s where he is. He’s still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he’s just not better. We’re hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury’s out.”

Morelli appeared in New Jersey court yesterday. Morgan has sued Wal-Mart for the accident. The driver of the truck, Kevin Roper, is awaiting trial in a separate state case on one count of death by auto and four counts of assault. The judge in Morgan’s suit will be determining the schedule of his trial in light of Roper’s ongoing trial. Roper had allegedly been awake for over 24 hours at the time of the incident.

Morgan did not attend court with his lawyer yesterday. Morelli told press that, “he’s fighting to get better, and if there’s a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he’s going to try to do that. But we just don’t know.”
