Kathy Griffin to land Joan Rivers’ gig on ‘Fashion Police’

One insider claims that Griffin always had the late Rivers' "blessing."

Comedian Kathy Griffin will replace the late Joan Rivers on Fashion Police, according to reports by TMZ.

Sources close to the show confirmed the news to the gossip site, saying that Griffin’s new spot is a “done deal.”

Griffin joins hosts Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and Rivers’ daughter Melissa Rivers. It remains to be seen if current co-host George Kotsiopoulos will continue his work on the show. Melissa Rivers also serves as the show’s producer.

In addition to the line-up change, the show is no longer a weekly series. Rather, the show will air during awards shows and “other occasions as event programming,” reports TMZ.

An insider who spoke with US Weekly claims that Griffin was always Joan Rivers’ first choice as a replacement.

“Joan has always given her blessing to Kathy,” notes the insider.

“They talked about it many times,” said the insider, to US Weekly. “They have such a similar sense of humor and were the best of friends. Joan would have loved seeing Kathy on Fashion Police and she would have definitely approved.”

Joan Rivers died Sept. 4 of this year, following complications from a throat procedure that was performed Aug. 28 at a clinic in New York City.

Griffin was reportedly first offered the gig at that time, but expressed hesitation.

“I don’t know if the situation is correct at this time for me or right for me at this time,” said Griffin, to Access Hollywood.

No word yet on when the newest incarnation of E!’s Fashion Police with new co-host Kathy Griffin — in the late Joan Rivers’ spot — will air.
