Reality star charged with three misdemeanor counts of drunk driving in New York City.
Bartolo “Buddy” Valastro Jr., star of TLC’s hit show Cake Boss, was arrested early Thursday morning after New York City police officers observed him driving erratically and charged him with three counts of drunk driving. The complaint read in court later this afternoon revealed that the reality star shouted, “You can’t arrest me, I’m the Cake Boss!” before the officers arrested him.
Valastro took over his family business in 1994 after the death of his father Buddy Sr., and made a name for himself in 2009 when TLC launched his reality baking show Cake Boss. The 42-year-old was reportedly swerving through lanes in Hell’s Kitchen in his yellow 2014 Corvette when the officers pulled him over around 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning and smelled alcohol on his breath. The officers asked him to step out of his car, but Valastro was noticeably unsteady. The baker failed his sobriety test, with his blood alcohol content level reaching 0.09 percent, 0.01 percent above the New York state limit. He was then arrested and taken to a police booking facility at around 1 a.m.
According to the prosecutor, Valastro admitted to the police, “I had a couple drinks,” before insisting “You can’t arrest me! I’m the Cake Boss!”
He also reportedly kept trying to assure the arresting officers, “I’m a good guy. Can you just put me in a cab? I don’t have to be arrested, I’m not a bad guy.”
The New Jersey resident was charged with three misdemeanor counts of drunk driving, including driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired. Valastro is due back in court on Jan. 6.
