Xbox One makes final update of 2014 with more customization, TV options

The update makes improvements to how users are able to watch TV.

Microsoft has just wrapped up the last system update for the Xbox One this year, and it provides users with a buffet of new features and options that allow for more customization.

For one thing, the update follows the trend of allowing a user to customize the appearance of their console, letting them choose a wallpaper, a location to their profile bio, and what achievements are viewable on their profile, according to Slashgear.

Because Microsoft relies on the console being an entertainment hub with TV capabilities and not just a gaming platform, users will now be able to see a trending tab in the console’s OneGuide feature that will tell them what’s hot on live TV, as well as view tweets about those shows and be able to tweet themselves. Players can also share clips of their gaming exploits on Twitter, using a “Share” button to compose the tweet.

A “MiniGuide” will allow users to view their favorite TV channels, including Recents and Favorites.

Functionality improvements with the new update including being able to use Internet Explorer in “snap mode,” or restart the console through an option in the Settings menu.

Store pages within the console have been improved to allow users to find relevant content, as well as view a list of games their friends played within the SmartGlass.

Microsoft does not anticipate any more updates in 2014 unless an emergency fix needs to be made. In 2015, they will lay out their vision for upcoming updates.
