Customized home screens, basic Twitter support, and a "Showcase" function that allows users to highlight specific gaming achievements are a few of the new Xbox One updates available this month.
Over the years of managing Windows, Microsoft has gotten used to offering regular system updates to keep everything running like a well-oiled machine. That same update-happy mentality is now pervading the Xbox One console, which has gotten new system features and overhauls seemingly every month since it came out. November is no different, and according to Tech Crunch, the new update has now arrived.
Where the October update included a few items that Xbox One fans had been asking about for a long time, such as Snap Updates (which allow users quick access to friends, messages, and more during gameplay), the November update is significantly tamer and more mundane.
There are still new features on the way for the system, like customized home screen backgrounds, basic Twitter support for sharing game clips, and a “Showcase” function that allows users to highlight specific gaming achievements in their Xbox Live profiles. However, as Tech Crunch states, it is not the “most exciting update” to ever come along for the Xbox One.
There is a reason for the more basic nature of November’s updates, of course. With the holiday buying season right around the corner, Microsoft does not want to risk releasing a new feature that does not work properly. Microsoft knows better than anyone that updates can introduce bugs into a system. Such bugs would cause bad press, which in turn could lead to fewer game and console sales during the holidays.
In other words, Xbox One users should not expect any major updates in December either. Microsoft will likely get back to launching new and exciting features in January.
