Josue Gonzalez of Brockton, 26, will be arraigned on a larceny charge today in Boston Municipal Court after he turned himself in and gave the victim’s phone back on Friday night, according to an Associated Press report.
The woman, wo remains unidentified, was hit and killed by a train at Boston’s Downtown Crossing subway station on Thursday in what is suspected to be an accident. After reveiwing footage from a surveillance video, authorities say they saw Gonzalez stealing the phone.
Gonzalez remains free on personal recognizance.
The woman’s phone became dislodged from her person after impact, landing on the platform, and the man put his foot on top of the phone on the platform before he reached down to pick it up, walking away casually, according to a Boston.com report.
The man may not have been entirely heartless, however: reports suggest that he had both hands over his mouth in shock at witnessing the woman’s sudden demise.
