Miley Cyrus receives backlash for pet pig’s pedicure

Some viewers expressed their dismay at seeing the photos.

Miley Cyrus is taking heat from some animal lovers for giving her pet pig, Bubba Sue, a pedicure on Wednesday. Cyrus posted photos on her Instagram account of her friend painting the pig’s hooves while she herself brushed the animal. (The pig, unsurprisingly, appears to be feeling rather blasé about the glamorous beauty treatment it is receiving.)

“Pig pig gonna be lookin’ fresh,” she captioned one photo, a close-up shot of a tiny hoof colored a bright, fire engine red hue.

Some viewers expressed their dismay at seeing the photos, concerned that Cyrus was exposing the animal to harmful chemicals in the polish by painting its hooves. Some angry commenters called Cyrus herself a “pig” for the paint job. Others have stood by the piggy pedicure. “That nail polish is not hurting the pig. And that is not abuse,” wrote one fan.

Cyrus grew up on a farm in Tennesse and is a self-proclaimed animal lover. Incidentally, Bubba Sue is not the first pig that Cyrus has owned. In 2012, PETA gifted Cyrus a pig named Nora on her 20th birthday to honor her for her dedication to animal rights.

Cyrus adopted Bubba Sue following the death of her favorite dog, Floyd—an event that led her to cancel a segment of her Bangerz tour in April of this year, and inspired several memorial concerts once the tour resumed.

Cyrus has not addressed the backlash that she received from the pig hoof-painting session.
