Leno sat in the guest chair for a change.
Former Tonight Show host Jay Leno returned to his old show Friday just not his old stomping grounds. Instead of driving one of his vintage cars down to NBC studios in Burbank, Leno was forced to fly to Studio 6B at “30 Rock” in New York City.
Much like he would with his monologue, Leno performed a short stand-up set in front of the Tonight Show audience before being invited by Fallon to sit in the guest chair for an interview. During Johnny Carson’s reign on the Tonight Show, only the best comedians would be invited over for an interview.
While being interviewed, Leno recalled when the former SNL star asked him for advice about buying a car. The car enthusiast, who owns several hundred cars and motorcycles, told Fallon not to buy a classic car if he couldn’t work on its engine.
“Look at these hands, ladies and gentlemen,” Leno said, holding up his successor’s hand. “That’s like a puppy’s paw. This is the hand of a five-year-old and it’s actually pink.”
Leno will be returning to TV in 2015 with a car show on CNBC.
