Inbox aims to be a more visual, effective platform.
Google has unveiled a new email system it has dubbed “Inbox,” and it will have some big changes compared to Gmail.
Inbox will look better than Gmail, according to InformationWeek. It aims to improve user experience by implementing a more spacious, colorful, and organized design than its predecessor. The idea is to convey messages received through Inbox in a more effective way than Gmail, which was intended to be more utilitarian.
Inbox will also aim to bundle more effectively, something Gmail does to a limited extent with category tags like Primary, Social, Promotions, and others. Inbox, on the other hand, will alter this by adding the bundles to your main email list rather than have parallel categories to choose from in different tabs.
Labeling will be a big part of the Inbox experience. They may show a picture of the sender or the first letter of their name in order to allow a user to more quickly scan their inbox for messages that are important versus messages that they can ignore. It will also help one to quickly locate other messages from the same sender.
The messages themselves will become more interactive. For example, a reservation confirmation from a restaurant will ahve details of the reservation time, alink to view the reservation, and a map of the location. Users also won’t have to download attached documents by putting them in a side-scrolling list.
Another innovative feature is the “Snooze” option, which can send email away from the inbox until an appointed time when the user wants to use them. On the other hand, the user can “pin” a message to keep it at the top of the inbox, similar to the Gmail’s option to have “starred” messages.
