Vinson survived Ebola after being infected with the deadly disease while treating Ebola patient Thomas Duncan.
According to a report from The Dallas Morning News, Texas resident and former President George W. Bush made a special trip Friday to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital — ground zero for the Ebola outbreak in Dallas.
Bush visited Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on the last day of the CDC’s 21-day watch period for the remaining group of people who had direct contact with or may have come into contact with Ebola patient Thomas Duncan or nurses Nina Pham and Amber Vinson. During the CDC’s watch period, hundreds of individuals in Dallas were monitored for Ebola-like symptoms.
Vinson, who survived Ebola after being infected with the deadly disease while treating Duncan, was greeted by the former president and hospital staff.
“You look great,” Bush said, according to The Dallas Morning News. “It’s nice of you to be here to say hi to your buds.”
He reportedly gave her a kiss on the forehead and a hug.
“Thank you all for enduring,” Bush told the staff at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. “That was a tough period for you, I know.”
The Texas Department of State Health Services marked the end of the 21-day watch period for the last 177 people who were on the CDC’s monitoring list.
“It’s official,” the health department tweeted Friday evening. “No symptoms. We are happy to close this Ebola chapter with Dallas tonight.”
