Officials later determined that none of the recently arrived travelers were carrying the deadly disease.
An Ebola scare hit a nude beach Wednesday, ABC News reports.
The incident began when a boat landed on a beach in the Canary Islands with almost 24 undocumented people onboard. Several of the passengers had fevers, one of several symptoms on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Signs and Symptoms” checklist. Due to their health status, officials reportedly quarantined the travelers on the beach for several hours.
According to The Telegraph, the man who shot the video (see below) of the isolated migrants said that the travelers landed on Maspalomas beach at approximately 8:30 a.m. Tourists and nude sunbathers at the beach, which is known as Europe’s unofficial nudist capital, gathered to watch the spectacle unfold.
The Telegraph says that although local media reported that several of the travelers were from countries impacted by Ebola, officials later determined that none of them were carrying the deadly disease.
According to the CDC, Ebola is a rare and deadly disease caused by infection with one of the Ebola virus strains. The virus can be transmitted to others through direct contact with blood or bodily fluids of a person who is sick with Ebola, dirty needles and infected fruit bats or primates. The CDC says that Ebola symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to the disease, but the average is 8 to 10 days.
