Former SEAL Team 6 member Robert O'Neill now says that "the team got" Osama.
CNN made a small mistake Friday while reporting on the Navy SEAL who says he killed Osama bin Laden. In a graphic that appeared at the bottom of the screen during Erin Burnett OutFront, the word “Osama” was accidentally replaced with “Obama.”
“SEAL who claims he killed Obama under attack,” the graphic read.
“One note before we go: A banner that appeared at the bottom of your screen during the report about the Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden was incorrect,” CNN anchor Erin Burnett said shortly after the mistake was made. “We apologize for the error.”
This is not the first time that the president’s name has been mixed up with the terrorist leader’s name. Shortly after bin Laden’s death in May 2011, Ragan’s PR Daily made a list of the five worst Obama/Osama mix-ups in the media, including one in which a Sacramento Fox affiliate’s screen graphic read, “Reports: Obama Bin Laden Dead.”
Update: Former SEAL Team 6 member Robert O’Neill now says that “the team got him.” During an audio interview with Alex Quade Friday, O’Neill said that “the most important thing that I’ve learned in the last two years is to me it doesn’t matter anymore if I am ‘The Shooter.'”
