The Death Row Records co-founder is accused of stealing a celebrity photographer's camera.
The legal problems just keep building. Marion “Suge” Knight, founder of Death Row Records and no stranger to a coutroom, pled “not guilty” on Wednesday to charges of stealing a photographer’s camera in Beverly Hills.
The LA Times reported that Knight, 49, and comedian Micah “Katt” Williams, 43, were arrested on October 30 and each charged with one count of robbery. The alleged incident occurred on September 5, when police contend Knight and Williams were leaving a recording studio and ran into the female photographer in the alley behind it. The two are accused on chasing the woman down the street, with Williams “forcibly” grabbing her camera. The woman allegedly received “minor injuries” from falling to the ground during the incident.
TMZ spoke with sources close to Knight who claimed he was provoked by the fact that the photographer was taking pictures of his 4-year-old son. The sources said the party asked the photographer to stop filming the child but she refused.
Knight and Williams were arrested for the incident while in Las Vegas. TMZ reports Knight lost consciousness in his jail cell and was taken to the hospital. He reportedly has a blood clot in or near his lungs.
The LA Times wrote that Knight surrendered to a judge in Los Angeles on October 5th. He was taken in on a $500,000 bail. Williams did not attend the hearing. Both men are scheduled to return to court on December 24th. Due to Knight’s lengthy legal background, including a conviction for assault with a daily weapon and a prison stint for violating his probation, he could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison if convicted of the robbery charges. Williams faces up to 7 years.
