Man who may have killed Hannah Graham charged

Man linked to a separate rape and murder may be responsible for abducting 18-year old.

The man who may have killed Hannah Graham has been indicted on an array of charges relating to another slaying.

A grand jury in Fairfax County has charged Jesse Matthew, Jr., with attempted capital murder, abduction, and sexual penetration with an object. This is the second case in which Matthew has been charged. Matthew is also being linked to the disappearance of 18-year old Hannah Graham.

Matthew has been linked by forensic evidence to the murder of 20-year old Morgan Harrington in 2009. “They never gave up, not over nine years,” said Police Chief Carl Pardiny. “This case has been going on for nine years.”

The rape occurred on Sept. 24, 2005, when Matthew is said to have grabbed the young woman from behind, carried her near a pool, and raped her. This indictment comes days after remains were found miles away from where Hannah Graham vanished on Sept. 13 of this year. The unidentified remains were discovered miles away from where the body of Morgan Harrington was found.

At this time an autopsy is being performed and there is no identification for the remains found on Saturday. Matthew remains at Albemarle-Charlottsville regional jail.
