Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley joke about Ebola at Country Music Awards

The duo charmed audiences with their seventh consecutive hosting appearance.

Maybe the seventh time is the charm. On Wednesday night country singers Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley teamed up for the seventh consecutive year to host the Country Music Awards in Nashville and earned rave reviews for their humor.

People Magazine highlighted the pair’s opening monologue. Underwood and Paisley commented that the country music world was facing an epidemic, namely, Postpartum Taylor Swift Depression. Paisley complained that despite the severity of the problem, the President remained unconcerned, and Underwood cracked that that was why the Democrat lost the Senate in this week’s midterm elections. They then sang a song telling Nashville they were going to have to “shake it off,” and Paisley promised to kick Blake Shelton out to give Swift a seat at the awards should she ever decide to return.

ABC News created a list of their highlights from the show, one of which was Underwood and Paisley adapting Dolly Parton’s classic Jolene song to “Quarantine” in reference to controversial nurse Kaci Hickox. “What part of stay inside don’t you understand?” was one particularly pointed lyric.

ABC News also reported the big secret that was let slip by Paisley during the show. With Underwood revealing a tiny baby bump throughout her costume changes, Paisley begged her to tell him the gender of her upcoming first child. Underwood whispered it to Paisley, who announced to the show—and the national television audience—that it was a boy.

Performers at the show included Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Ariana Grande, Kacey Musgraves, and a rare appearance by legend Loretta Lynn.
