Griffin confirms she's in talks to help fill the spot left by the late Joan Rivers.
Celebrities should be quaking in their unattractive boots. Comedienne Kathy Griffin may be signing on to E!’s Fashion Police.
Access Hollywood broke the news after interviewing Griffin on Tuesday at the Make Equality Reality gala event in Hollywood. When asked about the spot left on Fashion Police by the tragic death of Joan Rivers in September, Griffin replied, “They did offer it to me.” However, she did not confirm she had taken the position, adding, “I don’t know if the situation is correct at this time for me or right for me at this time.”
People Magazine reports that E! is “still in talks with people and making no announcements at this time.” People also spoke with Griffin’s rep, Justin Ongert, who vigorously denied any rumors that it had been Griffin who had been pursuing Fashion Police even before Rivers’ death. “It’s just not true,” he said.
In September, Rivers’ cohost Giuliana Rancic had made it clear the show was not simply looking for another body to fill the spot. “It’s not about replacing Joan Rivers—no one can replace Joan Rivers. Ever,” she told People. “It’s more about the show just being a great show and a fun show.”
Griffin herself said that she hoped the show find the right person, telling Access Hollywood, “I really hope they continue in the spirit of Joan’s work. She brought a fearlessness and a brand of humor into our homes that we really need.”
Entertainment Weekly reports Fashion Police will return to the air in 2015 with Oscar coverage.
