Rock was an SNL castmember in the early '90s.
Comedian Chris Rock joked about several risque topics, including the Boston Marathon bombing and 9/11, during his opening monologue for NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
However, the New York Daily News notes that Rock’s jokes were “tasteful” and didn’t make fun of the victims.
Rock, an SNL castmember in the early ’90s, first joked about marathons since the New York City Marathon was scheduled for Sunday.
“Yesterday was Halloween, tomorrow is the New York City marathon. Yeah, scary, you know, what could go wrong there?” Rock said.
In 2013, two brothers carried out a terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon that killed three people and wounded hundreds.
After joking about how runners at the 2013 Boston Marathon were asked to run 26.2 miles and then told to “run” as they approached the finish line, Chris moved on to 9/11.
“They should change the name from the ‘Freedom Tower’ to the ‘Never Going in There Tower’!” Rock said, noting how visible the Freedom Tower is on the NYC skyline. “There is no circumstance that will ever get me in that building.”
