The report reveals that Amazon's workforce is 63 percent male and 37 percent female.
E-commerce giant Amazon.com released a report Friday that offers details on the company’s diversity. Shortly after its release, The Washington Post pointed out that the company’s employees are “mostly white and male,” noting that the data suggests Amazon’s workforce looks a lot like those of tech giants Google and Facebook.
The report reveals that Amazon’s workforce is 63 percent male and 37 percent female. The report also reveals that 75 percent of the company’s managers are male. According to the report, 60 percent of Amazon’s U.S. workforce is white and that African Americans comprise 15 percent of the workforce.
Shortly after being released, the report already had a very vocal and well-known critic: the Rev. Jesse Jackson. “It’s skewed toward white male supremacy,” Jackson told The Seattle Times.
According to the newspaper, the civil rights leader has long been advocating for the release of the company’s diversity numbers. “The numbers are embarrassing to them,” Jackson noted.
Business Insider notes that Amazon relies on Affinity Groups to help the company determine where it should concentrate its diversity efforts.
