Very little is known about the movie's plot.
X-Men character Gambit is set to get a solo film, Deadline.com reports.
Fox will have Robocop writer Josh Zetumer create the screenplay, while actor Channing Tatum will produce and star in the film as Gambit, also known as Remy LeBeau.
Deadline.com adds that the screenplay will be developed around a version of Gambit’s story created by Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont. According to Marvel.com, Gambit first appeared in 1990 Uncanny X-Men #266.
AceShowbiz reports that Tatum was the first choice to play Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but scheduling conflicts forced him to turn down the role and, as a result, Taylor Kitsch appeared as Gambit in the movie.
Very little is known about the movie’s plot.
“I don’t want to give too much away because we don’t know that much right now other than who Gambit is,” Tatum told MTV News in October. “We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We’re obviously going to go for the saving the world superhero movies eventually, but not for the first one.”
“I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time,” the actor added. “It’s a weird, pinching-myself moment that we’re even having the conversation.”
Gambit’s occupation is unknown, but he is a former thief and an adventurer. Marvel lists him as 6’1” and 179 pounds.
“Gambit has the mutant ability to tap into the potential energy contained within an object and transform it into kinetic energy upon touching it,” Marvel writes. “When Gambit thus charges an object and throws it at a target, the object releases this energy explosively on impact. Gambit is unable to use this power to charge living objects.”
Marvel notes that Gambit can speak both English and French. He also has the ability to throw tiny objects — knives, throwing spikes and playing cards — with extreme accuracy. He is considered a talented duelist and fencer.
