Celebrities gathered at the AmfAR LA Inspiration Gala at Milk Studios in Hollywood on Wednesday night to raise money for AIDS research, and Miley Cyrus outbid even designer Tom Ford, who was being honored at the event for his philanthropic work. The “Wrecking Ball” singer dropped half a million dollars, and admitted on stage that her drunkenness at the event may have been a contributing factor for her generosity.

After bidding $300,000 on a Ryan McGinley photograph of a naked woman and then proceeding to donate an additional $200,000 to the AIDS research organization, Cyrus took to the stage to adress the star-studded crowd.

“I’m a little drunk,” confessed Cyrus, who paid tribute to the night’s honoree by wearing a black Tom Ford dress with a sheer top and crisscrossed sequined straps. “That’s why I’m a half-million deep.”

However, the 21-year-old singer was sober enough to get serious and talk about her desire to help AIDS research.

“If I’m going to have a voice I would like to start an open dialogue about prevention and awareness and how people in the world have been affected by HIV and AIDS. I could break down people’s walls that have been built up around sexuality. I’m obviously not too embarrassed to talk about these things, especially with young people.”
