Network cancels popular series after Mama June's relationship with sex offender is confirmed.
Days after Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star Mama June Shannon denied her rumored relationship with sex offender Mark McDaniel on Facebook, pictures have emerged of the two together with Shannon’s daughter Alana Thompson on TMZ. These controversial images have seemingly forced TLC’s hand, causing the network to officially cancel one of their top shows.
“I would never, ever put my kids in danger,” Shannon stated in a Facebook video last Friday.
However, the TMZ pictures reveal her statement was a lie, and The Daily Mail reports that McDaniel visited Shannon’s home in McIntyre, Ga., on Monday. A video posted on TMZ this week shows 9-year-old Alana’s father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, is upset that a sex offender is allowed to be near his little “Honey Boo Boo.”
When asked if he’s upset about June having “that guy” around Alana, Thompson admits he is “a little bit” bothered.
Thompson, Shannon and their family first found fame on Toddlers & Tiaras, where Alana won over the hearts of America and, more importantly, TLC. However, after Shannon’s oldest daughter, Anna Cardwell, told People and Radar last weekend that she was a victim of McDaniel’s abuse when she was 8 and he was dating her mom, the network understandably became concerned about his potential presence on their family-friendly reality series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
He “would try and touch me and all that stuff,” Cardwell told People.
Shannon’s parenting was questioned by viewers after her first television appearance, when she revealed she gave Alana Mountain Dew mixed with Red Bull to get her fired up for shows during her old pageant days, but dating a sex offender is not something TLC is able to look past or ignore.
