Most reliable car brand revealed

The rankings are determined by polls given to Consumer Reports' subscribers.

The Consumer Reports 2014 Annual Auto Reliability Survey has revealed that first-year models across a number of different car brands, including Infiniti, Jeep, Fiat, Ram, Cadillac, Ford and Honda, have seen a variety of problems with their multi-function, cross-linked infotainment systems and in-car electronics. The problem, however, isn’t always limited to infotainment systems.

“Infotainment system problems generally don’t exist in a vacuum,” Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing at Consumer Reports, said in a statement. “A close look at the results suggests that cars with a lot of in-car electronic issues usually have plenty of other troubles, too.”

Based on these findings, ConsumerReports.org notes that Lexus has once again been named the most reliable brand in the U.S. market, according to Consumer Reports 2015 new car reliability rankings.

The rankings are determined by polls given to Consumer Reports’ subscribers, who document any major trouble they have had with their cars in 17 different problem areas. According to ConsumerReports.org, “the survey is the largest of its kind.”

Behind Lexus, Toyota, Mazda and Honda finished near the top in Consumer Reports’ overall brand rankings. Subaru, Scion and Kia also finished in the top ten. According to Consumer Reports, Buick was the only domestic brand to make the top-ten list, landing the number six spot overall.

A brand must have two models to be considered. Thus, Tesla Motors was not included in Consumer Reports’ overall brand reliability rankings.

Consumer Reports adds that Audi finished in the top five for the second year in a row and several other European brands, including Porsche, Volvo and BMW, finished in the top half of the rankings.
