The device will have standard fitness tracker features, allowing users to keep tabs on their steps, their distance traveled, their calories burned, and more.
Information has leaked about Lenovo’s first-ever fitness tracker device, but from looking at pictures and specs, the device will not exactly be bringing a lot of new features to the table.
According to a brief report on The Verge, Lenovo has not yet made any sort of public announcement about the tracker, supposedly called the Lenovo Smartband. Instead, a page recently appeared on Lenovo’s website with the information for the tracker. It is not clear whether or not that page was meant to be publicly viewable just yet.
So what are the specs behind the Lenovo Smartband? Well, it will come in two different colors (blue and orange) and will look a lot like a watch. (The article on The Verge also compared it to the FitBit Flex.) The device will have standard fitness tracker features, allowing users to keep tabs on their steps, their distance traveled, their calories burned, and more. The Smartband will also keep track of sleeping habits.
As far as extra features are concerned, the Smartband probably will not have many of them. The device cannot get as many smartphone notifications as other fitness trackers, for instance. Probably the most unique feature about the device is its proximity technology: when you bring your Smartband into close proximity with your PC, the device will be able to automatically unlock your computer.
It is not yet clear when the Smartband will be making its way to the marketplace. The Verge wondered, based on Lenovo’s business patterns in recent years, whether or not the tracker would ever even be commercially available in North America. Since Lenovo is a Chinese company, it is always difficult to say which of the company’s products will make their way to the United States, and which will not.
