Remembering Oscar de Renta: Legendary designer passes away at 82

Oscar de la Renta passed away at 82 this week.

Oscar de la Renta, the legendary fashion designer who has dressed some of the most famous women in Hollywood throughout his career, passed away on Monday, October 20, due to complications from his battle with cancer. De la Renta was 82-years-old.

The Dominican fashion designer had a lengthy list of A-List clients over his career, which spanned decades. He dressed everyone from actress Penelope Cruz to First Lady Michelle Obama — though the two had a war of sorts going on up until two weeks before de la Renta passed away.

Apparently, the FLOTUS decided to finally wear one of de la Renta’s designs to a gala in Washington just a mere two weeks before his passing. It seems quite plausible that she knew of his illness and subsequent demise and wanted to wear one of his gowns before he passed away. Hopefully de la Renta knew that Mrs. Obama wore it.

Another big deal for de la Renta was dressing Amal Clooney when she married George Clooney just a few weeks ago.

In the past, de la Renta dressed the likes of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, among other high profile politicians spouses.

De la Renta started out his career with Balenciaga before forming his own label in the early 1960’s. He was best know for his floral patterns but every design he created was beautifully done and imagined.

Though de la Renta is gone, there is no doubt that his fashion empire will continue to thrive under new leadership. Hollywood will surely support him and his memory for years to come.
