The ABC comedy Manhattan Love Story is the first show to get the ax this fall season.

The ABC comedy Manhattan Love Story is the first show to get the ax this fall season. It starred Analeigh Tipton and Jake McDorman as Dana and Peter, a couple that start dating in the Big Apple. Peter is a savvy man while Dana is awkward and new to the city. Their inner monologues reveal their true thoughts. The series lasted four episodes and was low rated, bringing in only 2.6 million viewers. The show Selfie will take its place on Tuesday nights.

Meanwhile, the drama How to Get Away with Murder is the highest rated new show among networks. Black-ish is the highest rated comedy. The cancellation took a bit longer than usual. Typically, new shows that fare poorly are cancelled in the first couple weeks. Romantic comedies have not done well on networks. Viewers seem to favor high-stakes drama and action. Manhattan Love Story received lukewarm reviews from critics so the cancellation does not come as a surprise. Both actors have experience with romantic comedies. Tipton appeared in Crazy Stupid Love and McDorman starred in Aquamarine.

Some felt that the show had weak writing and clichéd characters. The plot was not considered original enough. Those factors tend to get new series axed. The network wasn’t ready to throw in the towel for Manhattan Love Story. They ordered 13 episodes and waited longer thinking that it might have picked up a wider audience. But the network finally pulled the plug. Whatever the case, the cancellation gives the actors other projects to focus on. The other shows on ABC have done fairly well. Viewers will wait and see how they do in 2014-2015 television lineup. Selfie doesn’t have high ratings, but it had more viewers, so it will air twice a week. The comedy stars John Cho and Karen Gillan.
