John Denver honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The beloved singer-songwriter was awarded the Walk of Fame star 17 years after his death.

Musician John Denver posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, according to CBS.

Two of his three adult children, son Zachary Deutschendorf and daughter Jesse Belle Denver, accepted the honor on his behalf.

Denver died Oct. 12, 1997 in a plane crash in California. He was 53. The “Take Me Home, Country Roads” singer had an intense connection to the state of Colorado — his cremated ashes were spread in the Rocky Mountains — and Coloradans felt the same.

Denver’s song, “Rocky Mountain High” was named the second official state song by Colorado lawmakers in 2007. The folksy singer-songwriter was also named the state’s poet laureate in 1977.

Born Henry John Deutschendorf, Denver changed his name to advance his career and landed on “Denver” because of his love for the state of Colorado.

John Denver’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star is the 2,531st star to be awarded. A photography exhibit, “Sweet Sweet Life: The Photographic Works of John Denver,” photographed by Denver, an avid photographer, is also on display at Hollywood’s Substrate Gallery for the next month.
