John Denver was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame on Friday, October 24.
Actor John Denver has finally been honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame seventeen years after his death in 1993. The posthumous celebration may seem a tad late but at least Denver’s family can now see that Hollywood recognized his work and appreciated his contributions to the industry.
According to the Star Herald, Denver received the 2,531st star on the Walk of Fame on October 24, in a ceremony that was attended by his children, son Zak Deutschendorf, and daughter, Jesse Belle Denver. Denver died tragically in 1993 in a plane crash.
Denver’s claim to fame was mainly during the 1970’s when he released iconic songs such as “Sunshine on My Shoulders” and “Thank God I’m A Country Boy,” and “Rocky Mountain High.” Most of Denver’s songs were optimistic tunes that made the day a bit brighter. His music wasn’t like the music of today, where much of it is paved with either violence, or beer drinking.
The ceremony on the Walk of Fame coincides with a new exhibit that showcases Denver’s work. The exhibit, titled “Sweet Sweet Life: The Photographic Works of John Denver,” will run through the next month at Hollywood’s Substrate Gallery.
It’s clear that though many young people may not remember John Denver or his music — especially considering how musical tastes have evolved over the years — he still made an impact and the fact that he now has his own star on the Walk of Fame goes to prove that.
It’s a little sad that Denver wasn’t around to see his name on the Walk of Fame, however, his two children are surely proud of their late father’s accomplishments.
