Police say she doused her roommate in nail polish remover before setting him alight.
Police arrested a woman for allegedly setting her roommate on fire for throwing out a plate of spaghetti, sending him to the hospital with critical injuries.
Melissa Dawn Sellers, 33, of Florida flew into a rage after roommate Carlos Ortiz, 42, tossed her spaghetti and meatballs, dousing Ortiz in nail polish remover and then setting him on fire, according to local TV station Bay News 9.
Police said Sellers got into an argument with Ortiz in the early morning after the two had been drinking. She used a lighter to ignite Ortiz after dousing him with the nail polish remover, according to the report.
Sellers actually began setting small objects on fire first as the confrontation heated up before finally turning to dousing Ortiz in nail polish remover, prompting Ortiz’s friend, Ines Causevic, to throw water on him as he tore his shirt off attempting to put out the flames, the report stated.
Causevic told the TV station that he face was “melting off, it was pink and sore.”
Ortiz was transferred to Tampa General Hospital where he was listed in critical condition due to burns all over his upper body. Although police did not find Sellers at the scene when they arrived, they nabbed her when she returned from her stepfather’s nearby home, and she was charged with aggravated battery. She has a prior record for battery and robbery, according to the TV station’s report.
