The actress nearly developed the condition from a faulty space suit in a lake in Iceland.
Sometimes acting can be a bit too method. Anne Hathaway has revealed one shoot for her upcoming film gave her a close brush with hypothermia.
Director Christopher Nolan and his cast members Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, and Hathaway, sat down for a round-table discussion of their film Interstellar for The Hollywood Reporter’s October 31st issue. During the conversation, Hathaway recounted how one particular shoot—in a lake in Iceland—nearly damaged her health.
“We had tested the first suit a few months earlier; it was not successfully waterproofed,” she said. “I was wearing a suit that kayakers wear, called a dry suit. And, human error, we didn’t close it all the way.”
Unable to feel her toes and feeling “hazy around the edges,” Hathaway asked her first assistant director, “Hey, I don’t know that much about hypothermia, but what are the symptoms?” The assistant director reported to Nolan, whose response was, “Ok—let’s roll!”
“There wasn’t any quick solution,” Nolan admitted in the round table discussion.
“It’s not like I was the only one in pain,” Hathaway explained. “I was just the only one in specific pain….and we were done shortly thereafter.”
Interstellar opens November 5 and is already rumored to be an Oscar contender.
