Convicted murder Jody Arias’ sentencing retrial begins Tuesday, Reuters reports.

Arias killed her boyfriend Travis Alexander in 2008. Alexander’s body was discovered in his shower. He had been stabbed multiple times and had been shot in the face.

A jury must decide whether Arias, who was found guilty of first-degree murder more than a year ago, should be sentenced to life in prison or face the death penalty. According to The Associated Press, the first jury deadlocked on whether to sentence her to life or death.

During her trial, Arias admitting to killing Alexander, but argued that she had done so in self-defense. Prosecutors argued that she had killed Alexander out of jealousy. Her trial was in the national spotlight for five months, as it offered live-streamed broadcasts of the court proceedings, including playbacks of phone sex conversations and other lurid details.

“I’m not a murderer,” Arias told detectives during a videotaped interrogation that was entered into evidence. “If I killed Travis, I would beg for the death penalty.”

The AP notes that the trial is likely to stretch into December.
