‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ actor Nicholas Brendon apologizes for his Idaho arrest

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer blamed his Friday arrest on unintentionally mixing prescription painkillers with alcohol.

At least he has some experience fighting demons. Actor Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role as Xander on television’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was arrested in Idaho on Friday night while showing signs of being under the influence.

CNN reports Brendon, who was in town for a Comic-Con, had broken a decorative dish in a downtown hotel. When the staff called the police, Brendon refused to obey the officers’ requests to sit down and at one point began to walk away. He was booked and charged with two misdemeanors, malicious injury to property and restricting or obstructing officers. He was able to make bail and even attended his scheduled event on Saturday night, tweeting at the time that he was “doing well.”

Brendon made a statement on Monday, writing to his fans via Facebook. He explained that at the time of the incident, he had been taking painkillers for a cyst behind his knee and mixed alcohol with the meds. He called the results “embarrassing and unacceptable.” He wrote that he, “intend[s] to seek appropriate treatment and therapy for my medical ailments as well as my emotional demons.”

The actor apologized twice in the statement, saying, “Those two small words don’t begin to express my regrets, but they mark the beginning of my recovery.” He also thanked fans for “understanding” as he theoretically begins rehabilitation.
