Family, fans and friends mourn her loss.
Friends, family and fans of American Idol’s Joanne Borgella are mourning her death this weekend as she lost her battle with Endometrial cancer.
The former Idol won over fans during season seven in 2008. Borgella went on to make the top 24 but was eliminated during 1960’s week after singing Dionne Warwick’s “I Say a Little Prayer.” Fans may also remember her from winning Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance on Oxygen in 2005. Borgella was not just a singer but a plus size model as well.
The 32-year-old was not shy about her cancer and talked openly about it ever since being diagnosed in October 2013. She was very vocal about it on her social media accounts throughout her battle the past year. So it was fitting that her family share her passing on her Facebook page.
“To God be the glory! read the statement, “With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Joanne. On Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 5:45AM, Joanne Borgella Ramirez was called by the Lord to heaven. At an early age, Joanne made a choice to serve and trust the Lord; and since her diagnosis over a year ago, Joanne made a choice to also be a fighter and share her journey with the world. Her faith, courage and strength were unshaken throughout every obstacle she encountered.”
Borgella is the second contestant from season seven of American Idol to pass away. The first was Michael Johns back in August after he sprained his ankle and died in his sleep because of a blood clot.
