Cranston mocks petition against the Toys 'R Us line of 'Breaking Bad' action figures.
Toys ‘R Us stores nationwide are currently selling Breaking Bad action figures which comes with a detachable bag of meth, and 3,600 individuals are supporting one Florida mother’s petition to remove these toys from the family-friendly store’s shelves. The Change.com petition reached Bryan Cranston on Monday, and the award-winning star of the hit AMC series has issued his official response on Twitter.
Susan Schrivjer of Fort Myers, Fla. started the petition last week to convince Toys ‘R Us to stop selling the action figures of Breaking Bad‘s Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, which can come with Hazmat suits, a gun, meth, and cash.
“While [Breaking Bad] may be compelling viewing for adults, its violent content and celebration of the drug trade make this collection unsuitable to be sold alongside Barbie dolls and Disney characters.”
“Toys R Us is well known around the world for their vast selection of toys for children of all ages,” Schrivjer wrote on the Change.com page. “However their decision to sell a Breaking Bad doll, complete with a detachable sack of cash and a bag of meth, alongside children’s toys is a dangerous deviation from their family friendly values.”
Bryan Cranston was clearly amused by the petition, and tweeted, “‘Florida mom petitions against Toys ‘R Us over Breaking Bad action figures.’ I’m so mad, I’m burning my Florida Mom action figure in protest.”
Toys ‘R Us is also refusing to take Schivjer’s petition seriously, and in a statement released to WFTX, revealed they will not take the figures off of shelves regardless of how many supporters it gathers.
“The products you reference are carried in very limited quantities and the product packaging clearly notes that the items are intended for ages 15 and up,” stated Toys ‘R Us. “Items from this TV series are located in the adult action figure area of our stores.”
