Sony has announced updates for the PS TV, PS Vita and the PS4, each boasting a number of new features. The company also announced the PlayStation App 2.0, which includes a new look as well as new features.
Sony has announced an update to the PlayStation 4, which is its first major update since it was released, called Update 2.0. The company also announced a number of minor updates, including Update 3.35 to the PlayStation TV set-top box and PlayStation Vita handheld console. Not only that, but the company also announced the new PlayStation App 2.0, bringing new features and a new look.
While the PlayStation App does not include any actual gameplay, it does allow users to connect with friends and view leaderboards for games.
According to Sony, the new app introduces a much better layout for tablets, as well as a new home screen. The company also said that the update would be available “within the same launch window as both the PS4 and PS Vita system software updates.”
The updates to PS TV and PS Vita allow an Internet connected PS4 to be able to stream graphics to a PS TV or PS Vita and use the PS TV or PS Vita as a controller. This allows users to be able to play their games both in the home and away from the home. The feature is currently limited to one or two player gameplay.
Sony has also begun to try and capitalize on the growing popularity of watching other gamers. The new Live from PlayStation app will soon be available and will target the PS TV and PS Vita, allowing users with a compatible device to watch PS4 livestreams.
The PS4 update, codenamed Masamune, includes improved music and storage as well as themes and customizations.
