After five weeks missing, the body of Hannah Graham may have been discovered according to authorities.
Police believe that they may have found the body of a missing University of Virginia student, according to Boston.com.
UVA sophomore Hannah Graham went missing early in the morning of September 13th. For over a month, family, friends, volunteers and the authorities have been searching for the 18-year old. Yesterday, human remains were found a short distance from where Graham was last seen. While further forensic tests have to be conducted to identify the remains, Graham’s family has been notified of the findings.
A suspect in the case has already been arrested and charged. 32-year old Jesse Matthew was arrested in September and charged with abduction with intent to defile. Matthew, who has a history of being accused of sexual assaults at colleges he previously attended in the early 2000s, was seen following Graham from a bar in Charlottesville on the night she was last seen. He is currently in jail waiting for his court date.
According to CNN, based off of evidence and where the remains were found, it is believed that there might be a connection in this case and a case from five years ago surrounding a Virginia Tech student whose body was found in the same region as the remains found on Saturday.
The body of Morgan Harrington was found three months after she went missing back in 2009. Harrington’s body was found on an abandoned property in Albemarle County, the same county where the human remains from this weekend were discovered. There were never any arrests made in that case, but Matthew has been linked to the case through forensic evidence. It is unknown if charges will be filed against Matthew for the Harrington case as well.
Matthew has a court date scheduled for December 4th.
