AmazonFresh debuts in NYC: 500,000 items to choose from

Safeway, Giant, the milkman. These are the businesses one typically thinks of when wishing to purchase fresh groceries or a cold bottle of milk. Starting Friday, however, a new business has been added to that list: Amazon.

According to a report from CNET, AmazonFresh is now open for business in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. AmazonFresh offers “free same-day and early morning delivery on orders over $35 of more than 500,000 Amazon items, including fresh grocery and local products.”

This is the first time that AmazonFresh will be available on the east coast. Residents in Seattle and some areas in California already have access to the food-delivery service.

Park Slope resident are guaranteed same-day delivery on orders placed before 10 a.m., the New York Daily News reports. Plus, customers who ordered by 10 p.m. the night before, can select an early-bird delivery option.

TIME notes that AmazonFresh is currently only available to NYC residents who are also members of the company’s $99-per-year Prime program.

According to the Daily News, AmazonFresh is likely to offer its services to other NYC neighborhoods in the not-too-distant future.
