Report: Trains collide in Arkansas, injuring more than 40

The rescue operation was tricky, according to the railroad police.

According to a report from Reuters, a passenger train and a freight train collided in Arkansas on Thursday, injuring all six crew members and 38 passengers.

CNN reports that the accident was the result of a miscommunication. The passenger train reportedly stopped on an uphill section due to the buildup of leaves on the track.

“We called for another locomotive to come help,” Arkansas Missouri Railroad Police Ron Sparks told CNN. “Somehow there was miscommunication on the passenger train’s position, and the locomotive rounded the curve and crashed into the passenger train.”

The rescue operation was tricky, according to the railroad police.

“It’s a pretty rural area, we had to park in woods, and wade through a river to get the passengers, using four-wheelers to pull them out,” he added.

According to The Associated Press, the passenger train was transporting tourists on a fall-foliage tour of the area. The accident took place near Winslow, Arkansas, which is approximately 175 northwest of Little Rock, the state’s capital.
