Rapper reveals that she's lost seventy pounds at Wang's H&M Collection launch
Missy Elliott hasn’t made a public appearance since June, and at her performance at Alexander Wang’s H&M Collection launch on Thursday, the rapper debuted a dramatically slimmer figure. Elliott reportedly lost over 70 pounds, which is being attributed to the healthier lifestyle she has committed to since being diagnosed with Graves’ disease in 2008 and her new emphasis on diet and exercise.
Wearing a baseball hat with “You can’t workout with us” on it, Elliott was seen smiling throughout her appearance at the launch party. According to US Weekly, her energetic performance of hits such as “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Lose Control” brought the crowd to their feet.
“Just got off stage thanks @ALEXANDERWANGNY and @hmusa for having me perform I enjoyed,” Elliott wrote on Instagram under a picture which showed off her weight loss.
The Grammy winner has not yet revealed how she dropped the weight, but she told People several years ago that being diagnosed with an autoimmune illness in 2008 forced her to start taking her health more seriously.
“You live with it for the rest of your life,” she stated.
Elliott first realized something was wrong when her leg started jumping around as she was driving. She “couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed.” After she was officially diagnosed, the rapper put her career on hold from 2008 to 2011 so she could focus on her health and seek proper radiation treatments and medication.
“I feel great,” she said after her hiatus. “Under my doctor’s supervision, I’ve been off medication for about a year and I’m completely managing the condition through diet and exercise.”
