According to NASA's official global temperature reports, the last six months were the hottest the earth has had since 1880, when such temperatures started being recorded.
Call it climate change, call it global warming, call it whatever you want. The earth is getting warmer, and it shows no signs of stopping. NASA has just announced that, according to their records, global temperatures for the last six moths are some of the highest that NASA has ever seen. These records show that Earth’s current temperature trends are not just hot; they are the hottest they have been in four thousand years.
According to Tech Times, NASA’s announcement came with the statement that the last six months were the hottest the Earth has seen since scientists began recording global temperatures in 1880. In addition, September was unusually hot, being 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit above the average from 1951 to 1980. This breaks the previous record set in 2005, and sheds light on how the Earth is heating up.
The heat wave first started in April. During that month scientists found that atmospheric carbon dioxide reached four hundred parts per million. This was found in conjunction with a study done by the National Climatic Data Center. In agreeing with NASA’s report, the NCDC announced that their data showed April, May and June as the warmest months according to temperature records. This rise in temperature is due to global warming and shows no signs of stopping.
This climate change is also apparent in oceanic temperatures. A lot of the rising heat has been stored in the oceans, but this new study reveals how it has also leaked into the atmosphere. Rising temperatures, while not a pressing matter, are still a concern. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration states that, due to the record breaking temperatures, El Nino will hit by the end of the year and last all the way until spring of 2015.
