Actor Brad Pitt reveals he’s owned a gun since he was in kindergarten

In a new interview the Fury star says he was given a heritage weapon at the age of 6.

Brad Pitt may be receiving invitations from the NRA soon. The actor revealed in an interview with Radio Times that he has a long history with guns, receiving his first one while still a child.

The actor, who is starring in the intense upcoming WWII thriller Fury, has handled guns many time on screen. The Independent reports he many come by his comfort levels naturally. Pitt, who was born in Oklahoma and raised in Missouri, claimed he fired an airgun as a child and quickly progressed to actual firearms, receiving a shotgun at age 6 and firing his first handgun by age 8.

“There’s a rite of passage where I grew up of inheriting your ancestor’s weapons,” Pitt said. “My brother got my dad’s. I got my grandfather’s shotgun when I was in kindergarten.”

He admitted he does not feel safe in his home unless he has a gun, but emphasized that, “the positive is that my father instilled in me a profound and deep respect for the weapon.”

Fury comes out this Friday, October 18.
