While this incident posed no real threat, the idea a bomb could be easily smuggled into the subway concerns many.
A relaxing dining experience was interrupted Friday evening in New York’s West Village when a man emerged from underground and threw a smoke bomb.
The man popped out of a sidewalk grate on Sixth Avenue between Bleecker and Houston, which was connected to the underground subway, according to NBC New York. He is described as being in his 30s with blonde hair.
The smoke bomb landed in the outside patio of Da Silvano about 6 p. m. Friday. The guests at the nearby Bar Pitti were affected as well.
The smoke bomb hurt no one seriously. However, the owner of Da Silvano, Anthony Curko, said his customers “were nervous and scared. They said the smoke was burning their eyes,” according to the New York Post.
Da Silvano often serves celebrities, and that night was no different: actress Rose Mcgowan of Charmed fame was there. She tweeted, “Someone just threw two red smoke bombs into the restaurant I was eating in. Eyes are burning. #NYCWHAT.”
“It was that red smoke,” said owner Curko who saw the incident, “red smoke, like a police checkpoint type of thing. It was just a quick shot. No one knew what the hell it was.”
While this incident posed no real threat, the idea a bomb could be easily smuggled into the subway concerns many. Monica Vickers, who was at Bar Patti, told NBC in a patronizing tone, “I guess they’re going to have to do more security. Or something, right?”
The prankster was seen wearing a baseball cap and a T-shirt with the American flag on it.
